Privacy@lemmy.world•Siri “unintentionally” recorded private convos; Apple agrees to pay $95MEnglish
2·1 year agoIt still doesn’t matter even from comparison point of view. In context of the comment, comparing it against revenue makes more sense than profit, since that’s what investors care about as that’s what grows stock value. Profit is what bonuses are based on when we are talking about these trillion-dollar corporations. So if we want to “teach” the investors, revenue is the target.

2·1 year agoOf course it matters.
Imagine if they make a big revenue but still operated in the negative does that mean they are immune from any repercussions because they made no profit? That is delusional. You always calculate fines against revenue.

Global News@lemmy.zip•[META] Rules update and philosophy behind this communityEnglish
1·1 year agoThere is a bit of misconception of what this community is. It’s not really meant to compete with
lemmy.worldor anyone else really.Instead of creating just another identical community, I decided to create something more worthwhile. The focus of this community is to create a space where open discussions can happen. And while to many it might sound “great”, the reality is that people are used to ultra moderated communities where they only see their own point of view reinforced. So having some unpopular opinions expressed and when they report it, them not being removed, is controversial. But that’s what open forum looks like.
The community has clear rules, and they are always enforced, but I don’t moderate opinions that don’t break any rules. Even if they are against my personal views or unpopular. That is reflected in the modlog, as I always point to the rule broken instead of writing unique reasons for different situations.
I’m not familiar enough with [email protected] to know their philosophy, but my DMs are always open. My Matrix handle is also available in the profile if more secure communications are preferred.

1·1 year agoThat I agree with. A lot of billionaires owned corporate media were doing everything in their power to kiss Israel’s ass by their useless coverage.

The cable is not available on Amazon yet, so you’ll need to buy it directly from the Japanese site and find a way to have it shipped.

There is a big misconception here.
Apple only limits 3rd party tracking and access. 1st party tracking by Apple, a known bad actor, is not affected by all the security measures they implement.
Clearest example of that being, that Apple backups everything to iCloud of which they keep E2EE disabled by default. Hence, all the content being available in plan text to Apple and anyone else who can compromise your Apple account. Fun fact: that’s where majority of celebrity nude leaks come from by the way.
And since the whole ecosystem is closed by design, you have no option to circumvent that unlike with open ecosystems.
