You could have at least waited for the December 16 sentencing. As a first time offender he might have gotten off with a slap on the wrist (depending on the judge) and you wouldn’t look like such a hypocrite for letting him just be sentenced. By acting preemptively, you’re just sending the signal that it doesn’t matter what crimes were committed, he won’t be held accountable. If you’re going to stand on principle for four years, doing nothing to ensure Trump faces consequences, why throw it away at the very end. What a clusterfuck our political system has become.

418_im_a_teapot@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•All the other brands went alongEnglish1·10 months agoIt really depends on what you use your laptop for. My 2013 MBP lasted 9 years and was how I got my work done. That comes out to 76¢ per day, and I make a fair bit more than that per hour.
But if you’re looking for a personal computer to surf the internet, yes, that could be cost prohibitive. But then it also matters less what device you buy.
As for ports, I’ve never needed a dongle on the 2013 model. I did need one for a USB A drive on the newest model, but this little thing has solved that problem easily. I didn’t even have to buy that since my monitor has USB A ports – I was just too lazy to reach around the back to use it every time. I’m not sure I understand all the complaints about the occasional need for a dongle.

I didn’t call my friend, who I had known since preschool, to go hang out. In reality I didn’t give a single thought to contacting anyone I knew – I had family to take care of. He felt insulted by that and chose to never speak to me again.
If this sounds completely illogical, I can assure you I’m just as baffled as you.

Now, It’s a Rising Star.33·10 months agoOne more aspect to nuclear power is its vulnerability to destructive forces, whether that be natural disasters or acts of war via either cyber attacks or direct bombing.
Given the abundance of safer alternatives, I don’t see why anyone would accept the risk associated with nuclear reactors.

That’s a pretty big donation even if it were in pesos.
But also, kids of the target age for this doll should not be able to jump on the internet and type in any address they want. Hopefully the only traffic increase is from adults who heard about the mistake and were curious.

418_im_a_teapot@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•‘Women Over 30 Would Have Uteruses Removed’ says Conservative Party of Japan Leader Naoki HyakutaEnglish7·10 months agoAnd many of us men are just as baffled by it. I honestly don’t understand why there are so many men – who I’m sure shutter at any mention of a woman’s period – that feel the need to control every aspect of reproduction and do so in the most cruel ways.
But also, the women who voted in support of those men are exponentially more baffling to me.
My brain hurts trying to understand it.
418_im_a_teapot@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•‘Women Over 30 Would Have Uteruses Removed’ says Conservative Party of Japan Leader Naoki HyakutaEnglish11·10 months agoHere’s a real number. 56% of Americans read at or below a sixth grade reading level.
When complex topics like the economy are discussed, _at least _ 56% can’t comprehend the concepts because they lack the vocabulary. They do not understand how government works, or their own bodies, or diplomacy, or historical contexts. They are not capable of being part of many important national conversations.
Now couple this with the fact that Democrats are terrible at messaging and simplifying complex policy into digestible sound bites while Republicans have perfected it, and you can easily see how we get to where we are now.
It was more Milton Freedman’s philosophy. Welch was teacher’s pet who implemented it to the fullest extent.
