No tabs in the app drawer… just all your apps on one page and have to scroll all the way down to find wikipedia, for example

None of these are a good replacement for nova.

I’ve been using android since 2007. Nova allowed me to stick with the old school UI paradigm of dock and app drawer… nova was so good, that i set up my homescreen in 2013 and basically never touched the settings again until i migrated a new phone…

All these new launchers break my 20 yr old workflow… i dont like the “everything is a search bar” thing

if you choose to back up to your own storage, does it still cost $1.99?

i’ve been using android since 2007… and the home screen paradigm for me has always been a customizable dock at the bottom with an app drawer button in the middle, and multiple home screens with whatever widgets you want…

i’ve tried almost all the suggestions for a nova replacement and almost all of them break my workflow i’ve used for almost 20 years. it’s very frustrating. it seems like the latest launchers fall into two camps…
“minimalist”, no widgets, have to search everything with keyboard
“modern”, takes a lot of cues from iOS on the home screen

that’s the problem with finding a “nova replacement”… almost everyone’s “nova” is completely different from each other… does anyone have a suggestion for a launcher that carries on the old school android layout, but also FOSS? (GO launcher still maintains the old-school paradigm, but not FOSS)

Currently doing encrypted backups to google storage archive tier. Very cheap to store, expensive to retrieve.

Thinking maybe i can set up a small box at a family members house for nightly backups

Depending on how new the laptop is, it might not work on debian stable. Check your compatibility

From personal experience with a new laptop, the intel meteor lake platform didnt work well with debian stable

sorry for the n00b question, but why do i need to self host a persistent daemon and then connect to it using a webUI? can’t i just use a soulseek client on my local machine? i’m not really familiar with the architecture of soulseek.

Is there any good content on soulseek? The last time i downloaded music from that era, it was all 96kbps realplayer audio files totally mislabelled with the wrong artist

apropos - command to list relevant commands tldr [command] - shows the most commonly used flags/options for that program

apropos comes installed by default (on debian at least), tldr needs to be installed with your package manager

As someone who cannot even remember tar flags (inser xkcd here), tldr is very helpful
