IS IT LUIGI MANGI-MOTHAFUCKIN-ONE?!
Delicious. That last one especially, scrolls right off the tongue.
Feels like something Ricky from Trailer Park Boys would deliver.
I’m definitely aware of that move, you can kinda tell who has gotten burned the worst (or maybe just most recently) by this behavior - by how insistent they are about the paper trail.
For me, I’d rather fuck off altogether, I want to work with people who want to get shit done. This nonsense is for the terminally unproductive, and that ain’t me.
But, alas, myself and many others…ya play the hand you’re dealt, I guess. Working on swapping some cards though.
Ya know, that’s super insightful and I bet there’s something to that. Our brains are so strange, and marketing (as an industry itself) has gotten to know them so well.
ENTIRELY possible that this exact line is what sent me down the path of noticing and loving tortured idioms. And I forgot all about it, so thanks!!
I love botched idioms so much. “It’s not rocket surgery” is my go to, but the best ones are unintentional (and completely torture the original).
Best I’ve heard lately was on the air, local NPR affiliate, and the unfortunate lass said something, complimenting I think a film director, saying “He’s hitting all cylinders at just the very top level”.
(The original is “firing on all cylinders”, which just describes an internal combustion engine working properly and not suffering from that particular degradation, cylinders misfiring. Hitting them, anywhere, let alone “at the top level”, is utter nonsense and it was delightful to me, she flat out abused that idiom)
Edit to add: some related favs which aren’t quite botched idioms but which kinda “rhyme” with the idea - both meaning “okay, time to get the thing done”:
OOF, cheers and well done homie! That’s delicious.
I’ve bumped up against some federal govt (US) contracting work, and have seen this for sure. I’ve seen some (decision-making!) individuals who behave this way, impacting progress so badly that it truly smells like a compromised person / spy. It’s really that nuts sometimes, where the more plausible answer is that the person in question is not acting in good faith.
Right?! Honestly the most remarkable part of the whole image to me is how totally ass many of the designs are. Dr. Shasta is egregious as well.
I’m fairly strict about content and usage with mine, and she plays the heck out of Roblox. I’ve played with her. This has not been my experience at all.
I’ve heard there are some SERIOUSLY dangerous people / groups on the platform, but that’s true everywhere to some extent and we haven’t had issues. I don’t think I’ve ever come across something inappropriate, in fact. What makes you say it’s a cess pool of porn and Nazi shit? Not attacking you, genuinely just want to know for my / our benefit.
I guess we’ll see won’t we? I predict we’ve got a bit further to go before enough people are miserable enough. It’s a numbers game and I don’t think we’re there yet.
And this is the heart of our predicament - the ones in control understand this. If they keep our misery at a low simmer they get to extract everything from us, slowly, we won’t revolt. I worry that our only hope may be that they miscalculate and the pot boils over. I really don’t want that, but I’m having a harder and harder time imagining real improvements anymore.
Not the person you replied to, but I think you’re both “right”. The ridiculous hype bubble (I’ll call it that for sure) put “AI” everywhere, and most of those are useless gimmicks.
But there’s also already uses that offer things I’d call novel and useful enough to have some staying power, which also means they’ll be iterated on and improved to whatever degree there is useful stuff there.
(And just to be clear, an LLM - no matter the use cases and bells and whistles - seems completely incapable of approaching any reasonable definition of AGI, to me)
I get mileage outta this one in particular too. Still sometimes get turned around and bamboozled, overall I’ve kinda learned to treat the info as more like…the Platonic ideal of a perfectly modeled store, lol. The many changes and failures and surprises just make me even more grateful that any of that info is in there and works well. Really convenient.
Still, I would’ve been disappointed if someone hadn’t just typed it out. Probably woulda felt like I had to.
Not the peepeeholefish :(
Currently rehabbing an old drive or two to begin my transition away from Windows during some upcoming time off! Enough is enough, MS has made it abundantly clear that users should not expect to own or control their Windows installations anymore. Complete deal breaker and I doubt I’ll be back.
Fun fact (eh…more like barely recollected memory, likely to be wrong to some extent) -
The tires on those big ass haul trucks are seriously dangerous as they reach end of life - a blowout on something that size is real violent. Far as I know, they’ve got a ton of instrumentation these days to keep track of conditions and remaining life, etc.
