Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•A question for those who have a partner, how did you manage to do it and how long did it take?
3·11 days agoPlenty of Fish here too! It was my first time trying an online date after a bad breakup and my friends encouraging me to try it out. We talked on the phone for a couple weeks and then met for coffee and ended up talking for 3 hours. We’ve been together since (12+ years ago) and got married 8 years ago.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What are some bare minimum concepts beginner Linux users should understand?
4·2 months agoI’ve been using linux for years, but in limited contexts. With switching my primary desktop over this year I’ve found it helpful to stop by my local library and checked out some books on linux. I’m combining that with chatting with a locally running LLM. I’ve also setup an extra Raspberry Pi I had laying around with Ubuntu Lite as a sandbox OS to tinker with.
Maybe consider a portable sandbox setup like this you could quickly demonstrate or share?

Technology@lemmy.world•Amazon is making it impossible to remove the DRM from Kindle BooksEnglish
12·3 months agoI bought my first ereader this summer and got a Kindle and hated it. Returned it and got a Kobo. Its fantastic, I can just load my ebooks like it’s an external drive. I dont have to email all my ebooks to Amazon just to get them on my own device.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your best tips for falling asleep?
4·1 year agoOn the worrying point. If you find yourself worrying that you can’t fall asleep, remind yourself that just laying there is giving yourself a chance to slowdown and relax. Giving yourself permission to relax is the first step to letting go of the worry.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•After a particularly annoying update today
4·1 year agoExactly. After reading through some forums it sounds like BitLocker may have been enabled at the factory initially but I had never noticed and since I didn’t set it up myself I had no key. So anyone reading this and running windows: right click your C: drive and see if BitLocker is enabled. If it’s enabled and you didn’t enable it or don’t have the key then disable the encryption. You can re-enable it afterwords and safely backup your new key so you never find yourself in this situation.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•After a particularly annoying update today
122·1 year agoLast week I had the lovely experience of it also pushing a bios update that enabled bitlocker and locked me out of my drive. I had to completely wipe the laptop and lose the data.
