Arch Linux@lemmy.ml•Updating Arch the right way - Please critique my practicesEnglish
9·2 years agoI just backup my stuff - dot files, docs, etc regularly. My whole system is disposable - meaning I can reformat anytime (I do it regularly).

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Not that you guys need the reminder, but your work sees all your browser history and you may not even be able to delete it if you wanted toEnglish
12·2 years agoWe have that capability but dont really have the time or need for it. having said that, it only takes one rouge employee to mess it up for everyone else.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Why do people still recommend Thinkpads for Linux when there are Linux-oriented manufacturers now?English
3·2 years agoAgree with this. Any Dell Latitude can easily be as good as any Lenovo in terms of Linux support. Our company has moved away from Lenovo and only go with Dell’s.
I recommend getting the new server as a whole box, install everything and configure as needed. When everything works as you require, switch feeds. Higher cost but minimal downtime, low risk.

7·2 years agoIf it was something as critical as that, if it was me, I’ll pay for roaming and use my phone like regular. I don’t know how easy it is for you but I’m from the US and the cost is a no brainer.

Linux@lemmy.ml•[Rant] I swear to fucking god. Windows is harder to use than Linux. Have any of you ever USED Windows lately? Holy fuck.English
5·2 years agoI will have to disagree but am a sysadmin by trade, so I work with Limux, Mac and Wimdows. I do run Linux and Steam on an HP Omen but was running Win 11 on it before with zero issues. I switched to Linix because all my other machines are Limux and its a bit of a hassle running compatability mode on Wimdows in order to read games saved on Linux. My son and I built his gaming rig and the hardest part for me is ordering the parts from different vendors. I think its all anout expectations. If you start hating Windows, you really wont find anything good with it and just see its faults.

World News@lemmy.ml•Americans will need a visa to visit Europe starting in 2024. Here's what you should know.
135·2 years agoI’m guessing because of migration. More USA citizens want to leave the US and overstay in the EU. This way its a bit more tedious and easier to track.

Arch Linux@lemmy.ml•Should you never make a root partition anymore?
1·2 years agoYeah we are moving away from CentOS and into vanilla Debian for our servers and kvm hosts. We haven’t tried Proxmox yet, just didn’t have the need since we are a smallish shop and have in-house tools to help with vm management. It is very interesting tho and will probably try it in the future.

Arch Linux@lemmy.ml•Should you never make a root partition anymore?
1·2 years agoHi - I mainly use Arch but also Debian here and there. I’m a sysadmin so its part of my job.

Arch Linux@lemmy.ml•Should you never make a root partition anymore?
4·2 years agoSame. I use the vanilla partitioning scheme. I put all of my effort on backup and reproducibility of my system. I completely wipe out my system at least every month.

A bit confusing I agree. Just a little bit research.
