Red foxes are clearly orange. Black tea is clearly red. White grapes are clearly green.

World News@lemmy.world•Netanyahu requests a pardon during the Israeli prime minister's ongoing corruption trial
3·28 days ago“Lots of people think I am corrupt and using martial law to not get punished, which is dividing the country. Please say that I am a good boy and that I am above the law to fix that. BTW: you have to do it; you don’t want a divided nation in this atmosphere we created purposefully to give me this leverage and extra power, do you?”

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is there an actual picture of Mohamed or painting that we can view? Without pissing off all of Islam?
11·28 days agoMost Shiites, Sufis, some Sunnis, and lots of other denominations either don’t see it as Haram or see it as a frowned upon act, not entirely forbidden.
If you’re talking about not pissing off Sunnis, then that’s a bit harder (as usual). Depictions are controversial for the following:
-
(To mitigate another issue): The fear of Idolatry, as lots of Muslims believe that this is one of the reasons ~“Christianity was corrupted and became polytheistic”.
-
(Haram) Because the depiction of living things is forbidden by some hadiths. [1]
-
(Frowned upon) Because of the ways such depictions might be stored later on. Some consider it Haram to simply throw away things with the names of one of the prophets or the word “Allah” for fear of it being mistreated (e.g. stepped on or altered) and extend that to the depictions of prophets (This extends the rule to all prophets of Islam, as such lots of children’s cartoons use calligraphy or censor out depictions of all prophets). [2]
So yeah, there you go…
[2]:
["Once, we are done with papers or magazines with writings of Quranic verses, prayers or Names of Allah, etc., we must not simply throw them or discard them as we would do with any other ordinary stuff; rather we must dispose them off in a respectable manner.
The ideal way of the disposal of such materials off is by shredding them and then trashing them. If that is not possible, then the next best thing to do is to trash them after cutting and slicing them into tiny pieces.
Burning is not recommended as it may be highly risky; especially indoors. If, however, it is extremely safe to so, and, once done under strict supervision, there is no harm in burning them."](https://aboutislam.net/counseling/ask-the-scholar/miscellaneous-ask-the-scholar/how-to-dispose-of-paper-with-allahs-name/)

Linux@lemmy.ml•I find it ironic that some Linux websites load faster on Chrome than Firefox sometime it doesn't even load correctly on Firefox
4·3 months agoit feels like a “web app” more than a website. Like, it somehow needs to “load” after loading the page… unlike classic forum softwares that just instantly show the pre-rendered page.
I kind of like this behavior. If you’re writing a complex website with user posts, comments, tags, and other nifty stuff and want it to stay modular it’s almost guaranteed that you’ll end up with this loading behavior (unless you want to SSR everything).
ui also feels way too ‘simple’, hard to navigate and has low info density. i guess this is how more people nowadays prefer things to work
Don’t know about that, I find it easy to navigate with the consistent sidebar elements. Searching for posts is easy since they’re usually well tagged and have good titles. Searching for solutions and checking out community contributions and votes is about 90% of my use case for a forum. Maybe you have different use cases.

133·3 months agoI don’t get why people like that forum software :/
feature packed with a really clean and user friendly UI + each distro can easily customize it to add lots of their own brand identity (Manjaro especially appreciates this).
I don’t have a problem with it not loading correctly, and it loads quickly even on somewhat slow internet (using Firefox).

World News@lemmy.world•New elections could take up to four years, Syria rebel leader says
13·1 year agosomething that’s somehow worse
That’s a very big claim. It’d take more than just a dictatorship to be worse than Ba’thist rule.
Mr. president hasn’t finished his term yet, and hasn’t formally stepped down. So I am asking Russia to return him to Syria, else he’ll not be able to fulfill his duties. According to him Russia has coerced him into fleeing the country and that’s not cool.
Plus it’s Christmas season and Russia is ruining the holiday for Syrians by stealing a very special Christmas ornament the country would’ve had.
Russia has its two ports which Assad signed away for the next gazillion years and Assad himself, who’s a property of Syria, and should be returned to be dealt with accordingly.
The real concern is Iran, Israel, and the US. Iran is currently using the desperate criminals Assad left behind to cause instability and should be the top priority of the new government.
Turkey is an alley of the new Syrian government. You can compare it to what Russia was for the regime, but not committing war crimes against most of the population.

World News@lemmy.world•Revealed: How Israel's plan to carve up Syria was thwarted by Assad's downfall
2·1 year agoWhy didn’t he fight back against HTS? They didn’t destroy his military, they ousted him from Syria. Terrorists now control Syria, the people are happy, the economy is improving, and people feel safe in their homes. How did he let that happen?
Assad did not directly attack Israel. He was transporting weapons for Iran to Hezbollah.
He wasn’t transporting weapons to Hezbollah, he was just standing there and the weapons were being transported. Until Israel threatened him and the dumbass Maher who thought he was being sneaky.
For now we shall see. It is possible HTS will resist Israel but looking less and less likely.
HTS will fight to sign a peace agreement acknowledging that the Golan is part of Israel at the very least.

World News@lemmy.world•Revealed: How Israel's plan to carve up Syria was thwarted by Assad's downfall
3·1 year agoIf they wanted to, they could’ve destroyed all the weapons, defenses, and bases while Bashar was destroying infrastructure and homes. As for a land invasion, lets not pretend that HTS’ take over was more than them marching forward and replacing flags. No one would have fought for Bashar if Israel with air support and advanced weaponry were to start an invasion.
Israel bombed Gaza and went in, then did the same for Lebanon, and was inevitably gonna enter Syria. It just wasn’t in a rush to do so, the regime had already turned the country into rubble for them and was massacring Syrians city by city. It wouldn’t have been in Israel’s best interest to leave their regime exposed with no air defense or artillery.
Just for the record I don’t believe that HTS or the next Syrian government will keep up this feud with Israel, they’re an actual government that’s trying to build a country. It has been clear for quite some time now that the regime is not interested in the “Axis of resistance” and whatever they were planing, but they really needed the Russian and Iranian support so they stayed as a part of the resistance on paper. Now it’s gonna be official: No one is coming to get the Golan heights back, and no one has the power to help the Palestinians.

World News@lemmy.world•Revealed: How Israel's plan to carve up Syria was thwarted by Assad's downfall
5·1 year agoYes, but they didn’t need to do that before, now they aren’t so certain.
Before Bashar’s indefinite vacation they just flew by and bombed whatever they though needed bombing and Bashar would just bank the right to respond, instead of actually responding or using the air defenses to stop the bombing in the first place.
They never needed to bomb Syria since Bashar took care of that. Plus his barrels had shrapnel and metal nails to cause as much bodily harm as possible to “his people”.
If they needed to get someone out of Syria and into some interrogation room they would just cross the border and grab him out of his house, just load him up and drive away.
I don’t think there are many things done to Gaza today that Bashar didn’t do to Douma, Daria, Allepo, Dar’a, Hama, Idlib, Homs, and Raqaa 10+ years ago.
Now Syria has some stability, the de facto government isn’t driving a wedge between each Syrian and their neighbor based on religion and race to keep Syrians in fear of each other, and they are actually working to improve peoples’ lives.

Makes sense
Even if it produced indisputably white liquid. Why not call it after its own color while tea is named after the color of its processed leaves?
You’d expect tea which is thought of as a drink to be known for the color of the liquid, and grapes often eaten as is to be named after their color.
But it doesn’t really matter, any of these could’ve been named after whichever color they were at any point of their making / preparation. It’s not like there’s a convention or something
