As a Linux Noob, Linux was lot easier than I expect it to be. Think it was me having the “This isn’t Windows so I might as well as research about anything Linux related” mindset which it paid off for me. It got to point where Windows is now my secondary OS (Mainly to use it to use Tomb Editor to make custom Tomb Raider levels which is annoying to get it running with Wine which I don’t know how to troubleshoot at all.)

It’s ironic how it’s now my main OS and if you told me several years ago that I would be mostly using Linux, I would think you’re talking total nonsense.

I remember someone on Discord server I used to be on kept telling people to “use Linux” which back then, I thought it was some scary OS for people who’s tech savvy and wrote him off to be annoying. It was few years when I have my own laptop as early birthday present that I find Windows 10 annoying and remembered Linux exist so I run up a virtual machine and watch so many videos on YouTube about it. Then, I made USB-Boot and installed Linux Mint.

Far from perfect but I feel so much more comfortable using Linux over Windows, feels so much more smoother

I hadn’t tried them as I’m more type person to store stuff on my USB hard-druve (Not ideal but it’s doable) but I have seem people on subbredit called something like r/KodiAddons (and also there’s a community of it in Lemmy but seems dead) use some repo that has plugins to allow you to view pirated shows and films.

So in theory, yes you can as long as there’s some video plugin to allow to do so but it just finding the repo that’s legit. Sorry I can’t help you as much but hope it better than no answer at all

• Linux isn’t Windows. I know that is a no-brainer but it needs to be said so it won’t be as 1:1 to Windows.
• How to install software both in terminal and as well as software manger GUI. Bonus points about compiling software from places like GitHub.
• Packages type and their pros and cons
• Trying to run Windows application via Wine (or some manager like Bottles or Lutris) as well as comparing running same Windows Application from Linux and Windows.
• Alteratives to popular software and list out what it can do and what it doesn’t have so user can see if that feature it doesn’t have would affect them. For example, GIMP doesn’t have full CMYK support which for most users, it isn’t a big idea but for people that want to edit images to be ready for printing, they might want to keep that in mind.

This is just a compromise that still allows people who used Generated-AI to make money without putting any effort. Mildly related but I hate how people praise Gabe doing this to Steam which is just a half-ass solution, at the very least just blacklist games that has been reported to used Generated-AI to hold game studio accountable.

Otherwise, Linux phone looks interesting but it just relearning both another OS (like iPhone users trying to learn Android and vice versa) and also just I have low income so buying new tech is just expensive.

I don’t want to throw myself a deepend to an OS that I not as familiar with beside on my desktop and Raspberry Pi. Personally, I prefer to know what’s there before I just go blind so at least I can manage my expectation than expected it to do 1:1 stuff that I do on my phone right now.

Trust me, I know. Like I said, I only added it as there’s ton people saying it underrated and act like it’s a universal liked game and TOTALLY not disliked by many and said why it isn’t good.

• Tomb Raider (2013) - I want to like that game and even tried the mindset of “Try treat it as just a standalone game” like I did with Resident Evil 4 but unlike that game, the game is boring. The constant hold-handling which the combination of the reboot trying to be cinematic feels jarring. “Survival” mechanics feels like a gimmick and felt in late-game, it went just being generic shooter game.
• Doom 3 - I only putting it here as there’s fan saying it underrated but to me, it feels like a tech demo at best (a really good one as love the shadows) and at worst, it’s a poor-man’s Half-Life. It was at first, scary the jumpscare but that’s more just emeries’ placement which felt there for cheap scare which ruins the atmosphere a bit they just set up. Personally, I think Dead Space is everything what Doom 3 wishes it could of be. One thing I do like is you can listen to logs and read emails to try find out PINs for various lockers around the place which I thought that was cool.

For me, it’s lack of Linux smartphones and also not selling in more popular shops. If I wasn’t curious about Linux and decided to watch videos online about it, I wouldn’t have known a Linux Smartphone exist and also, a smartphone is already a oversaturated market where it’s just another iPhone or some sort of variation of a Android phone.

Fed up of Microsoft’s BS and it’s inconsistent UI/UX design. Made my very first PC build around last Christmas and have dual-boot of both Linux Mint and Windows 11 and I been mostly fine with Linux.

EReader like Kindle is just right size for me to read. I found size of phone feels too narrow, especially as I have larger font size.

But for multiple-user instance, I was thinking of maybe having community based on just being fan of music but more leaning on pop music so sort of like your Lemmy instance if it was hosting Mastodon instead. I won’t lie, it what I sort of miss Twitter just being a fanboy (minus the bigotry, bullying and just the cult-like behaviour) and just post stuff related to music I enjoyed, even if it just some random photoshoot I think looks great! I just concern that people on Fediverse would see it as it being a pro-“worshipping celebrities” instance instead of instance that just wants to say “Love their music, it means a lot to me”.

For something like an older game console or old PC, sure but not really for the old phone’s OS.

PeerTube is the ‘YouTube alternative’ I can somewhat get around but the issue I have it has few content creators I would watch. Otherwise, just seems more of a concept than an actual replacement for now.

I hate Odysee, it has many far-right content creator which I remember seeing much of pro-nazi video on there. It’s beyond me people keep suggesting that god awful platform for people that hate YouTube for allowing far-right wingers on YouTube and doing barely anything about it.

Sadly, people are simply just so comfortable with whatever massaging & social media app they used that trying out other alternatives is immediately dismissed as a inconvenient before they even tried it. And also we are so used to corporation taking so many of our data that some are just numbed about it and see it as a losing battle or they don’t know how much valuable their information is which you often get the infamous “I got nothing to hide” BS.

I have got few my friends to use Signal when I was about to delete my Instagram. Still in contact with them which is a small victory for me.
