Very much same. I was an art kid. I painted and wrote and sang and played music, fast forward 30 years and I’m on a computer for 8ish hours at work, then another 8ish hours at home then sleep, with phone time scattered through out.

On the flip side, I’m hopeful that the large scale waste people have will finally drive more local filament recycling services.

You will get there(although I haven’t heard great things about Fedora gaming). I made the switch November 2021 and I haven’t booted back into windows in about 9 months. I ended up picked EndeavourOS cause I wanted something Arch based to be as close to Steam Deck packages as possible(and I already prefer KDE Plasma, so picked that as well).

I still have my hiccups. I still can’t get SteamVR to work at all. I spent about 45 minutes yesterday troubleshooting why Outward stopped working, when all the protondb reviews say “it just works”. I did eventually get it working from a random suggestion from the arch forums to add PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command% to the steam launch commands and that fixed it. If I had to guess I think it’s something to do with my 1070Ti not playing nicely with the latest nvidia drivers. Also Epic made some sort of stupid update to FallGuys and I can no longer get it working for more one initial run per install. So that’s frustrating.

But I also love how much I know my system now. I love being able to update everything from one or two commands. I love pipewire for doing music recording stuff.(I fought for years on windows to try and cobble together something similar). I love having bash macros to easily download embedded videos and do quick ffmpeg conversions. Really, it definitely comes down to how I feel much more connected to this system than I ever did to a windows install.

They FINALLY added a tab at the top to select between All, Steam Deck, or Linux. I just noticed yesterday.

Buy a laser printer. They’ve come down in price a ton and are so so so so so so so so so so much better than fucking ink jet printers. I’ll never go back, and regret the years of anger and stress they caused me.

Brother printers are the best as well.

You basically described me exactly when I switched. Switched to Endeavour OS Nov2021 and I’ve been so happy with the change. Steam Deck was definitely my inspiration and reason I chose an arch based distro with KDE(I’d also always preferred kde from my previous Linux forays). I game everyday, and at this point I consider myself Linux proficient. I rarely need to look up commands. Other than games I rarely need to use any non native software, but when I do running it through Bottles usually works. Next step is to finally upgrade my aging 1070ti to an AMD card.

Well I’m installing this as soon as I get home.

I personally finally made the fulltime switch in November 2021 after years of on again off again attempts. The one I was finally able to stick with was Endeavour OS with KDE desktop. It’s basically just an arch distro with a good installer and som QoL apps. Easy to maintain and a good community if you need assistance.

And with the creation of Bottles running windows software has been surprisingly easy. I do some home studio recording and just got EZdrummer setup as a vst in Ardour, and it just works.

While I agree that hotels are generally better than Airbnb, I have always had really good luck with Airbnb. I traveled across the EU staying almost only in Airbnb’s and it was great. It also let me kind of see what the housing market was there if I ever wanted to move. Also one of my hosts in Amsterdam firmly believed in the “bed and breakfast” portion of Airbnb, and cooked breakfast in her kitchen for us every morning and had all kinds of great info about the city. Plus she had an old orange cat that liked to sit at the breakfast table with us.
