ciapatri@sh.itjust.worksto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What was the last skill you learned and how?5·1 year agoLast two skills I’ve successfully learned:
-
Giving subcutaneous fluids to my cat. Followed vet instructions and watched several how-to videos online for different tempered cats.
-
Making macarons. Followed online recipes, tried some different techniques and troubleshooting through trial and error.
More recently, I have been trying to teach myself HTML whenever I have pockets of free time during the work day. I’m following the mozilla.org Intro to HTML as a guide.

So Lemmy, what are your favorite Halloween traditions?3·1 year agoSince owning a house my partner and I have really embraced Fall/Thanksgiving/Halloween decor from mid-September until early November (we’re in Canada where Thanksgiving is in October). I like fancy/pretty shit so we have a bunch of blown glass and porcelain stuff, candles, some skull/haunted-like figurines, wreaths and vases with faux flowers/black branches. The last two Thanksgivings my partner bought me a bouquet of orange/yellow flowers for the dining table too.
I bake at least once for Thanksgiving and once for Halloween. We also watch Halloween Baking Championship every year, and try to squeeze in some horror flicks too.
We also listen to a very wide variety of fall/Halloween music throughout the season. This year we particularly enjoyed the Nemos dreamscapes compilations (example).
Baked until golden?

Meanwhile in Canada it takes nearly a full day to drive from one side of Ontario to the other. I have more faith in the European mind comprehending this than the USA’ean mind.

Or when you are both at a stop light facing each other in your respective left turn lanes. Not only are their insanely bright LEDs directly facing you but you are also both at a slight incline, exacerbating the angle of brightness. And you have no choice but to look ahead because you need to watch for oncoming cars/pedestrians crossing, to know when it’s safe for you to make your left turn.

What is this “bottle hack”?
My hoarding of the plastic tabs for the past decade is finally coming in handy.
PETA does often miss the mark on the way they try to make a point.
Whatever the country’s age of criminal conviction (typically 18). It’s hard enough to get a job WITHOUT a criminal record.
Depending on the country and/or crime, a juvenile record will also prevent being able to work in certain jobs/industries.
