  • I actually just had this happen to me irl. My old office was colloquially referred to as “The Dungeon” bc it was in the basement of an old dark campus building and to get there you had to take a somewhat circuitous path. I pleaded with my boss to move us to a new space with windows.

A few years later, we were able to move into a new suite in a different building with the rest of my department. Our new office even has windows! Except they’re interior windows that face out into other surrounding rooms, instead of exterior windows bringing in natural light which unfortunately I didn’t specifically mention in my wish. 😂

  • As a former elementary school teacher, I fully agree. IXL is decent for skill reinforcement but falls short when it comes to teaching new content and principles. It turns out most students benefit from learning in a group where another student might not get the content initially and ask clarifying questions and have the teacher repeat, rephrase, and reteach. Or classmates work in pairs or small groups and teach each other, for example. IXL was great for practice and did allow the teacher additional flexibility to work with students who needed more help or a more personalized approach, but I would not want my students to exclusively use it.

  • Not only is Spotify padding their library with AI-generated crap, they’re cashing out now before people find out and take action. According to the article and its sources, Daniel Ek sold shares worth ~$348.3 Million dollars in just this year alone. Remember he’s the CEO who caused a backlash earlier this year for saying the cost of producing music as an artist was almost zero. Now we know why - because he truly thinks using generative AI to make music produces just as good music as that of real artists - when it comes to lining his pocketbook, that is.
