I do tech support on a global company, and some customers have started to demand their cases not to be readable for our usa based colleagues, nor the shared info hosted on usa clouds. So that wall is somewhat already there.

isgleas@lemmy.mlto Linux@lemmy.world•Linux install on laptop for a complete noobEnglish3·9 months agoYou can try your luck and see if you can find hardware similar to yours already probed, that may help you decide.
In my experience, persistent usb systems are painfully slow depending on the combination of components. Is your usb drive fast enough (usb 2? 3?)? Is your usb port fast enough? Habe you tried different port on the computer? Booting from usb will most likely require the system to be loaded into memory, do you have enough for what you are trying to achieve?

At first I thought the issue was with the jellyfin instance had not enough capabilities, but after trying the same file with its subtitles, it worked on any other client: flatpak, web, and regular android. So for me it is the chromecast/androidtv device, so I am now looking what to replace it with

What are you reinstalling? New haos on old kvm? Old haos on new kvm? New deployment?
From the logs I read that your user

has no rw perms within the haos.
I think that would be something related to your DE. In my case, I have the Plasma Integration plugin in both Firefox and Chromium-based browsers, allowing me to play videos full screen for long periods, the only nag being that if I have it full screen on one of my displays but there is any other window focused, it triggers the screensaver. For those cases, there are a few ways on KDE to prevent the displays to enter any saving mode with no more than 2 clicks, or a shortcut if you prefer to configure those

If what you’ve watched has nearly ended, it won’t show for continuing. I have the opposite issue, some shows has a long outro/preview of the next episode, so I have to either mark it as seen, or fast forward near the end for it not to show on the continuing watching section
I’m not sure if your issue is narcisism or bestiality
You could dig into the Linux hardware and see if your system is listed there, and how compatilble it is
