That is literally what non-Open Source/capitalism is like:

• You pay, you are the product and you pay for it

I think the issue most companies don’t realize is that we are forcing many people under a living wage, and at that point being paid better is the only thing that counts.

That is the biggest reason I don’t trust Signal. They implemented Whatsapp’s encryption and while technically the encryption hasn’t been broken, the way it works forces you to leave data on your device, which has been proven dangerous in practice for the kind of people it sets out to protect.

The big difference is that some networks just make good moderation and defending your eyes basically impossible. Not with the Fediverse, where it’s designed to be the way you like as a person and as a community.

Portugal has the Uber law, all drivers have to be clearly indicated with a TVDE sticker and they need some basic qualification afaik. Also some taxi services double dip of course.
