World News@lemmy.ml•Whole Foods argues it can ban BLM masks because the Supreme Court let a Christian business owner refuse same-sex couples
61·2 years agoI believe black people’s lives matter. I hold that view so strongly that I’m willing to shout it in the streets. Does that make part of a political extremist movement?

513·2 years agoPretty sure Whole Foods had shitty conservative executives back then too didn’t they?

World News@lemmy.ml•As the Olympics loom, Paris's transport grid worries wheelchair usersEnglish
8·2 years agoEven accounting for how car-centric US cities are, I agree with that commenter. Yeah it may be hard to get downtown from outlying neighborhoods without a car, but sidewalks have ramps and building have access. Hell, the parking lots have designated parking spaces. Not true at all in most European cities
Edit: I guess it’s worth a little more nuance than just limping all European cities in the same category. The wealthier northern cities have definitely caught up a bit (though they all still have buildings that are completely inaccessible). The real problems are the southern cities like Rome, Madrid, Athens, Lisbon etc.

World News@lemmy.ml•3,000 More U.S. Troops to the Persian Gulf: New Conflict Coming Against Iran?
81·2 years agoDoes it really need to push the idea that a new conflict is coming though? The US military moves people around with unclear (public) reasons often.

Fediverse@lemmy.ml•Where can I get the data about Lemmy subscription patterns?
2·2 years agoThanks for the support! I thought it would be a useful tool too. People could use it to find instances they didn’t know about, but which are popular in their network, or to find under appreciated instances to build bridges.
Anyway, sounds like database access is a must, and I’m not trying to take on a massive data wrangling exercise. I had it in my mind that the data were just sitting their for download, which was wishful thinking!

World News@lemmy.ml•America's richest 10% are responsible for 40% of its planet-heating pollution, new report finds
33·2 years agoIt’s a stretch to say that because they invest in a company, that they “produce” the greenhouse gases that that company emits.
Yeah, they could invest elsewhere but it’s just disingenuous to say they’re responsible for all those carbon emissions.

Fediverse@lemmy.ml•Where can I get the data about Lemmy subscription patterns?
97·2 years agoWhat do you mean? I thought it was an explicit feature of this place that literally all of it was public and nobody owns any of the data. Isn’t it just sitting there in the public domain?
If people know that’s how it works, they can’t get mad if someone does access the data. Especially for innocuous curiosities like this.
