  • I’ve long had a mix of Windows and Linux machines, and currently have a gaming desktop with Win10, my old gaming desktop/media center PC on Win10, and my laptop/homelab machines all running Proxmox or Debian. At first I hadn’t migrated to Win11 because Microsoft hadn’t convinced me it’s an upgrade, but Copilot has now convinced me it won’t be an upgrade.

I haven’t decided exactly when, but the Windows 10 EOL is going to drive me to remove Windows from my remaining computers, and just use Linux.

Faster than gigabit, but not 2.5 gigabit. Your cables likely support the speed, just your ports and switching hardware are capped at gigabit.

It’s not extremely expensive, but unless you move around a lot of big files, you’re probably getting very diminished returns, even spending less than twice as much for 2.5x speeds.

  • Even being born into it, it feels weird. I’ll stand politely when the national anthem is played at a sporting event, because that feels only slightly odd. But the pledge of allegiance always gave me straight cult vibes, no thanks.

I’ve seen multiple groups of Australians treat their national anthem with mild irreverence, which feels so much healthier.

  • At 2mm thick regular spaghetti, and ~400 nanometer thick nanospaghetti, the nanospaghetti is about 5000 times thinner than spaghetti diametrically, and pi times thinner by circumference. That’s such an extreme difference it’s hard to imagine how small this stuff is intuitively.

I feel like we need a word that sounds like a pasta name, not a scientific one, to describe this stuff

  • There are definitely different workflows for different recruiters, especially across industries.

Most of the places I applied to in my most recent job hunt had separate places to upload a cover letter and resume. If they didn’t ask for a cover letter, I didn’t write one, but I do see an argument to append one to your resume anyway.

  • From a cursory examination, it looks like there are at least some models where you can disconnect the antenna, for which you may get a warning you can just ignore. Seems a lot easier than a faraday cage. But a lot worse than a car not outfitted with that kind of tech.
