i disagree.lemmy absolutely is a forum (subject-based threaded discussion). mastodon absolutely is not.
are there jerks in the fediverse? yep. many bad actors.
many server ops will defed known nonreciprocal servers. ‘scrapers’
they are different server platforms using the same protocol for different purposes. mastodon == federating twitter, ie ‘old man shouts into the cloud’. lemmy == federating reddit, ie threaded discussions.
there are so many perfectly good non-federating server products as to make this question moot. lemmy is the wrong platform for a stand-alone environment.
they do federate with others though… so not stand-alone as op is describing
people that have more money than they could ever spend trying to accumulate more money
no. its the wrong tool for that job.
there are already dozens of good stand alone forum products. there would be no need to use a purposefully federating platform where half the code is put to federation. silly.
bluesky is neither federating nor decentralized. the bigger it gets, the more unlikely they every implement those features
its just twitter with forums run/controlled by a single corporate board.
twitter/mastodon is just an old man shouting into the cloud (single to many). the discussion is very limited in scope. forums (many to many) are much more intensive due to the volume of human activity and its nested interactions with said data.
even if you just look at the biggest players thats dozens of servers with 100k users all upvoting/replying/moderating and your instance needs to process that if you want a decent interaction.
threaded-discussion server products require far more resources than a simple mastodon, twitter like server. if you want to federate with the threadiverse its going to be resource intensive.
i hate ‘apps’, but off the top of my head
yep. i use mbin on my instance, so i have access to both sides of the fediverse unlike lemmy.
the threadiverse is group discussion. the twitterverse is ‘soapbox’, or ‘old man shouts into the void’
smells like mastodon, only with worse content searching, worse scalability, worse moderation and less content reliability.
awesome.
i found it very easy to grab a couple of pre-built containers… im using deluge and gluetun … im sure theres a transmission container out there also.
setup your auth info in gluetun, point your deluge/trans container at gluetun for its network and youre done.
omg its just horrifying.
its like watching one of the test videos of planes being crashed into a brick wall on purpose.
At least 85 people have been confirmed dead so far, according to the local fire department. Two people, both crew members, were pulled alive from the crash site however rescuers have warned there is little hope of finding further survivors.
thats going to be 170+ dead when its over
i cannot find doubtfire funny in any capacity. its sad, revolting.
