I think the Lightning-Protocol was a little more difficult, because there were Display Adapters which probably need more than 4 lanes. And who could forget: some iPad actually had Usb 3 over Lightning.
No, if the clamp-mechanism breaks, you habe to replace the connector on the device while with UsbC you only have to use a different cable.

There is physical connections between devices. The pins that make electrical contact. There are 24 on UsbC and 8 on lightning making a lot more things possible.
Also there are structural benifits. Lightning connectors are held in by the device which makes replacing the clamp a lot more difficult than just switching the cable like UsbC, where that mechanism is inside the cable.
And last but not least is Usb an open protocol while you would have to pay Apple if you wanted to implement Lightning.

Mechanical Keyboards@lemmy.ml•Where can I get a some kind of baseplate for custom keycaps?

Mechanical Keyboards@lemmy.ml•Where can I get a some kind of baseplate for custom keycaps?
2·2 years agoWow thanks for the detailed response My keycaps are like this. I personally never heard of Glorious Panda switches as I am also very new to keyboard building. And I found out that they are actually Keychrons own switches and confused them with Cherry. So far, I found no measurements of them.
I thought there would be some cheap plastic baseplates for people to build their own keycaps, but surprisingly this isn’t a thing. And purchasing a whole set for this is straight up waste.

5·2 years agoI also used iPhones for a long time until I had to switch to a temporary phone due to age-related hardware malfunction. Out of curiosity, I tried /e/ OS and was very pleasantly surprised.
The temporary phone is now in use for at least a year and I also get to enjoy other extraordinary features like USB-C and a headphone-jack. In the future, I may also give LineageOS a try.

Yes, but what if the mouse could stop its charging cycle depending on its use, so it does not damage its battery. Or what if users could change the function of the power button to an short-press for sleep-button and long-press for power off.
There are better ways to change peoples habits while still maintaining basic functionallities.
